Firms Purchase Porters Neck Property For Future Walmart Supercenter

By J. Elias O'Neal, posted May 2, 2014
Nearly 44 acres along the Market Street corridor in Porters Neck has been sold to a development firm that plans to construct a new Walmart Supercenter, according to a developer overseeing the project.

David E. Harner, vice president and senior real estate manager of Beckley, W. Va.-based Paramount Development Corporation, said Thursday Paramount and Walmart officials paid about $6 million for the property located in the 8100 block of Market Street.

Officials closed on the property late Thursday afternoon, Harner said.

Gerald Evans, a broker of Wilmington-based Laney Real Estate Company Commercial Properties, represented Paramount and New Hanover Regional Medical Center during the transaction. Bill Maus, partner and principal broker of Wilmington-based Maus Warwick Matthews & Company, represented the YMCA during the transaction.

Harner said Paramount officials plan to break ground on the development in the coming weeks. He said officials hope to open New Hanover County’s newest Walmart Supercenter in Porters Neck by the first or second quarter of 2015.

Called Bayshore Commons, plans call for the new $35 million retail development to be anchored by the 189,544-square-foot Walmart, with an additional 61,180-square-foot shopping center and outparcels for future retail development.
