Stewardship Development Group Offers Green Building Sessions And Awards Event

By Cece Nunn, posted Feb 19, 2016
In addition to an awards luncheon, an event next week offers participants education sessions on different aspects of green building.

The sessions will be held before the Lower Cape Fear Stewardship Development Coalition's 10th annual awards luncheon on Thursday at The Terraces on Sir Tyler, 1826 Sir Tyler Drive, Wilmington. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. That educational portion, free with a luncheon ticket, counts for professional development hours and is being organized in partnership with the U.S. Green Building Council - Cape Fear.

Topics include USGBC Green Building Economic Impact Study with Nick Lauretta, an engineer and senior project manager with McKim & Creed Inc.; a panel discussion on Building Science - Indoor Environments/Indoor Air Quality; Sustainable Building Materials, Reuse and Salvage; and Case Studies with Danny Adams of LS3P, who served as project manager for Live Oak Bank Building 2.

The awards luncheon, scheduled to start at 12:30 p.m., honors residential, commercial and public development projects in Brunswick, Pender and New Hanover counties that demonstrate outstanding environmental stewardship through the protection, conservation, improvement, and awareness of our natural resources.

“We are really pleased with the number and quality of projects we will be presenting this year. Our goal is to have the annual awards program inspire more and more development teams to include environmentally friendly techniques in their design and construction. We believe that green building and smart site planning can be incorporated into almost every development project to some degree,” said Mamie Caison, chair of the Lower Cape Fear Stewardship Development Awards Program and director of the Brunswick Soil and Water Conservation District, in a news release.
