Major New FedEx Facility En Route To Wilmington

By Cece Nunn, posted Sep 3, 2015
A package worth millions could be delivered to Wilmington by next year.

With plans to build a new 215,000-square-foot FedEx Ground distribution warehouse in the Port City, a company based in Kentucky bought 25 acres of industrial land Sept. 1 for more than $1.8 million, said Will Leonard, vice president of Wilmington-based firm Cape Fear Commercial.

Leonard and Brian Eckel, co-founder of Cape Fear Commercial, represented  the seller, Trasco Inc., in the transaction. Setzer Properties purchased the tract, located on the north side of North Kerr Industrial Park, off the future Pennington Drive extension. The facility is scheduled to open in early 2016, Leonard said.

The acquisition is expected to have an even greater impact on the area, he said.

"The sale will create additional lots of various sizes in North Kerr Industrial Park fronting Pennington Drive and Hall Waters Drive due to upcoming roadway extensions," Leonard said in an email. "The transaction is one of several industrial land deals completed by Cape Fear Commercial as the market continues to improve. We anticipate additional pending land sales later this year."

Setzer, which builds FedEx facilities throughout the United States, also announced this summer that the company was awarded a built-to-suit project for a FedEx facility in Asheville, according to an announcement on the firm's website.
