Local Car Wash Business Buys New Location

By Cece Nunn, posted Apr 8, 2015
The owner of Cruisers Car Wash bought a new location recently on Shipyard Boulevard.

Clayton Gsell started Cruisers, named after his black Labrador Retriever, in 1998 at 325 S. College Road in Wilmington.

Since then, he’s added a second full-service location at 3835 Oleander Drive and a self-serve Cruisers in Southport.

The new Cruisers Car Wash at 1500 Shipyard Boulevard is the only self-serve express car wash Gsell owns in Wilmington. The property was formerly called Auto-Track Car Wash and was owned by Rapelye Investments.

Gsell said Terry Quinn, a broker with Intracoastal Realty, assisted him in the transaction for an undisclosed amount.

He said crews have been doing a lot of work at the location, including installing new landscaping, putting in new equipment and painting.

“It’s a great location,” Gsell said. “It’s a busy car wash, and we’re looking forward to getting all the remodeling done so it can serve our customers.”

The business and land at 1500 Shipyard Blvd., consisting of a little more than an acre of land, was valued at more than $760,000 in 2014, according to New Hanover County property tax records.
