A company specializing in customized English, Chinese, and Japanese language education for employees is expanding its global reach to the Port City.
Winglish Inc. plans to occupy 1,550 square feet of office space in the 5041 New Centre office building, located at 5041 New Centre Drive, Suite 217 in the coming days.
Chuck Lydon, senior vice president and broker with Wilmington-based Coldwell Banker Commercial Sun Coast Partners, along with fellow broker Tyler Pegg, represented Winglish Inc. during the Dec. 20, 2012 transaction for an undisclosed amount.
Hank Adams, a broker with Coldwell banker Commercial Sun Coast Partners, represented the landlord.
Sunny Kim, a Winglish Inc. representative, said in an email response Thursday that Winglish Inc. is one of the leaders of online education in Korea, and is engaged in other business areas in the field of education such as English tutorials, publishing, corporate education programs and overseas immersion programs.
He added the firm, which was founded in 1998, is rapidly growing its study abroad division with established practices in the U.S., Canada, Australia and China.
Kim said his firm selected Wilmington because the area’s Eastern Time zone allows the company to synchronize its working hours with the Korean Standard Time zone. He added the area’s climate, labor market and access to the University of North Carolina Wilmington compelled the company to move to the Port City.
“I think Wilmington is the perfect place to satisfy all the criteria before mentioned,” Kim said in an email. “That's why I chose this city.”
