Brunswick Surgery Center recently added two robotic-assisted systems for patients undergoing joint replacement surgery.

The center, which opened in Leland last year as the region’s first outpatient orthopedic surgery center, invested in the ROSA Knee System and the Mako SmartRobotics system, according to a news release.

EmergeOrtho opened Brunswick Surgery Center in The Villages at Brunswick County. Seven EmergeOrtho surgeons are certified to perform robotic knee replacement.

Both systems can be used at the center for total knee replacements now and for partial knee and total hip replacements in the near future, officials said.

“The systems combine the surgeon’s expertise and experience with computer-generated, real-time data during the surgery, allowing for better precision and accuracy,” the release stated.

“In clinical studies, robotic systems have shown the potential for patients to experience less pain, less need for opiate analgesics, less need for physical therapy, improved knee flexion and soft tissue protection in comparison to manual techniques.

Brunswick Surgery Center will hold a series of open house educational seminars 6-8 p.m. Oct. 7, Oct. 21, Nov. 4 and Nov. 18, with the first focusing on its outpatient robotics knee replacement program.
