Additional Community Endowment Board Members Named

By Christina Haley O'Neal, posted Dec 14, 2020
The New Hanover Community Endowment group has announced the remaining additions to its 11-member Board of Directors, according to a news release.

Six people, all New Hanover County residents, were named to the board, on top of five people previously selected when the New Hanover County Board of Commissioners in October established the nonprofit corporation charged with overseeing the estimated $1.25 billion from the sale of the county-owned New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

The nearly $2 billion sale to Winston-Salem-based Novant Health is expected to close early next year. A new regional local board charged with overseeing the hospital after the sale has selected the new members to the endowment board.

The new members are:
  • Chris Boney, principal and chief relationships officer of LS3P Associates Ltd.
  • Bill Cameron, a PAG member and co-founder and president of Cameron Management Inc.,
  • Cedric Dickerson, a PAG member and vice president of State Farm Agents and Employees Political Action Committee,
  • Michele Holbrook, global supply chain project manager at Corning Inc.,
  • Pat Maguire, physician, medical director and managing partner at Coastal Carolina Radiation Oncology, and
  • David Sprunt, owner/manager of Harriss Management LLC
Spence Broadhurst, Virginia Adams, Hannah Gage, Stedman Stevens and Shannon Winslow were previously named to the board

The board has had its first meeting, held virtually, and elected Broadhurst as chair of the board and Gage as vice-chair and secretary, according to the release.

"The endowment’s purpose is to improve the lives of New Hanover County residents for generations to come," officials said in the release.

The nonprofit has been registered and established with the state and is pursuing IRS federal tax exemption as a charitable organization.

“The New Hanover Community Endowment Board looks forward to the opportunity of serving this community as we work to improve the lives and possibilities of all our citizens,” said Broadhurst, who was co-chair of the PAG and Eastern North Carolina region president for First National Bank, in the release. “We have a diverse and committed group of people who truly care and want the best for our community, and we are ready and poised to begin our work when that time comes.”
