Charles Foust takes over Sept. 1 as New Hanover County Schools' next superintendent. When he starts, he will be in charge of a school district that like others around the country is trying to navigate the shift to virtual education and classroom reopening plans in the face of the coronavirus.
Foust comes to the area from Kansas City, Kansas, where he served as superintendent of a school system that is similar in size to New Hanover County’s district.
The New Hanover County school board recently chose Foust for the position, which has been held by an interim superintendent since March after the resignation of Tim Markely.
On Thursday, Foust talked about how the beginning of virtual learning has rolled out for the district's schools and upcoming plans as well as his background and priorities in his new role.
