BIZTALK: With Wilmington's New Police Chief

By Staff Reports, posted Jun 30, 2020
Wilmington Police Chief Donny Williams, on his first day on the job June 24, announced the firing of three veteran officers for "hate-filled speech" and violent threats against Black people that were caught on patrol car video. In other news on June 25, the city temporarily removed two Confederate monuments.

These two events, among others, have become part of ongoing discussions about race that were brought to the forefront after the killing of George Floyd, a 46-year-old Black man, during an arrest in Minneapolis in May. Floyd's death led to nationwide protests, including in Wilmington.

Williams' announcement about the three officers made national and international news. He joined BizTalk Tuesday morning to discuss what happens next with the police department in Wilmington.
