Irma Cancels Flights At Wilmington Airport

By Cece Nunn, posted Sep 11, 2017
High winds in Charlotte and Atlanta are causing flight cancellations at the Wilmington International Airport.

As of noon, Delta had canceled all of its flights at ILM except for an 8:25 p.m. arrival, said Gary Broughton, the airport's deputy director.

The winds are coming from Irma, a former Category 4 hurricane that has been downgraded to a tropical storm but was still resulting in 70 mph winds early Monday morning in Charlotte, according to an Associated Press report.

American Airlines will cancel everything in Wilmington later today, from a 3:30 p.m. arrival from Charlotte onward, Broughton said.

What airport officials will be watching now is whether flights can come in later tonight, which will determine whether tomorrow's departures will be affected, Broughton said.

"The arrivals and departures screen on our website is being kept up to date," he said, advising that passengers also call the airlines they planned to fly with before they head to the airport.
