Upcoming Business Events And Memorial Day Closings

Several business events are planned for the week of May 30.

Cape Fear Respite Home holds a celebration of its reopening following renovations from 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday. The facility, part of the Trillium network, offers temporary housing in a home setting for people with mental and physical disabilities. It is at 202 Dorchester Placein Wilmington. Thursday, The Investors Roundtable of Wilmington meets at noon at the Country Club of Landfall. The guest speaker is Greg Dahlman, a Chartered Financial Analyst and senior vice president with Dana Investment Advisors. Guests are welcome, but reservations are required. Click for more.

Also on Thursday, University of North Carolina Wilmington’s Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship kicks off its June series of TED Talk Thursdays. Each session will have a different topic: next week’s is Work and Technology. The event takes place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. and features Mike Hunter, founder of Pivot Launch Coaching. UNCW’s Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship debuts another special June series on Friday:  The Shark Tank Think Tank. Aimed at young people aged 12-18, the series, which takes place from 7-9 p.m. each Friday in June, asks participants to view Shark Tank episodes and analyze them in discussions led by local entrepreneurs.  Registration is required; space is limited. Historic Wilmington Foundation offers “Live in a Landmark,” the fifth in its Preservation for Profit workshop series, Saturday 8:30 a.m. -12:30 p.m. at Wilmington council chambers. The session includes a discussion of the state’s new preservation tax credits. Click for more.

Holiday closings

In observance of Memorial Day, city, county, state and federal offices and all courts will be closed Monday in New Hanover, Brunswick and Pender counties. The University of North Carolina Wilmington, community colleges and public schools in the tri-county region will also be closed, along with financial markets and banks. Additionally, Monday is a post office holiday.
