Battleship North Carolina, UNCW Athletics, Team Up On Fundraiser

By Jenny Callison, posted Nov 4, 2015
Battleship North Carolina announced today that a high-scoring season for University of North Carolina Wilmington's basketball programs could mean more support for the battleship's Generations Campaign.

Buckets for the Battleship is a season-long promotion in which supporters pledge $1 for each three-point basket made during the 2015-16 season by UNCW's men's and women's basketball teams. At season's end, all funds raised will go to the Generations Campaign, which underwrites the cost of repairing the ship's hull and maintaining the battleship as a memorial and landmark "to honor all those who served and continue to serve in all branches of the armed forces," according to a news release from the Battleship North Carolina.

"We're excited about partnering with Wilmington's premier landmark, the USS North Carolina, on this unique project," Jimmy Bass, UNCW's athletic director, said in the release.

Last season, the men's basketball team sank 162 three-pointers, the women's team 80, according to the release.
