A rally is planned Saturday in support of building a stadium that would bring minor league baseball to Wilmingon. The event takes place at 2:00 pm in Innis Park, adjacent to Wilmington City Hall.
At the rally will be former Atlanta Braves player Otis Nixon, who will talk about his time in the minor leagues and sign autographs. Braves players Greg McMichael, Zane Smith and Jeff Treadway will also be on hand to take pictures and sign autographs. Additional guest speakers will talk about the benefits of a new ballpark, which would be intended for many uses other than holding ball games.
There will be special prize drawings for Little League players who attend in uniform.
The rally is co-hosted by the Wilmington Chamber of Commerce, Wilmington Ballpark Coalition and Port City Baseball.
