FUNDRAISER

On Friday, May 3, the Assistance League of Greater Wilmington presents the 3rd annual Blue Jean Ball, Bling at the Beach dinner dance fundraiser at the Wilmington Convention Center with music and a silent auction. Admission is $65. Info: 686-9507

On Saturday, May 4, the Cystic Fibrosis Great Strides Walk and 5K Run will begin at 10 a.m. at Mayfaire Town Center. The event raises money for cystic fibrosis research. Registration begins at 9 a.m. Info: 262-5118

COMPETITION

The Wilmington Table Tennis Club presents the Port City Ping Pong Throwdown on Friday, May 3 at the Brooklyn Arts Center at 4 p.m. Eight tables will be available, and cash prizes will be awarded to top finishers. This event is open to all and ends at midnight. Info: www.brooklynartsnc.com 

FAMILY FUN 

The Pender County Spring Festival takes place May 3-4 at the Pender County courthouse square in Burgaw. There will be vendors, arts and craft dealers, horse and buggy rides, live music and food. Admission is free. Info: 259-4844

The Coastal Garden Club of Shallotte presents its 2013 Flower Show May 3-4 at Shallotte Presbyterian Church. The theme for the flower show is “On Broadway,” a flower show featuring the themes of several Broadway performances including Mame, Phantom of the Opera, Cats, South Pacific and Chicago. The show will be 1-5 p.m. Admission is free with a raffle of the floral arrangements. Info: www.coastalgardenclub.org

MUSIC 

On Saturday, May 4, the N.C. Symphony presents Tchaikovsky’s Pathétique Symphony at the University of North Carolina Wilmington’s Kenan Auditorium at 8 p.m. Admission ranges from $10 to $70. Info: 962-3500

Reggae International and the Brooklyn Arts Center present Culture featuring Kenyatta Hill, Boba Funk and D.H.I.M. on Sunday, May 5. Admission ranges from $12 to $15 and the show starts at 8 p.m. Info: www.brooklynartsnc.com 

HISTORIC

Since October 5, the Cape Fear Museum has exhibited Fragments of War from its Civil War collection. The exhibit will end Sunday, May 5. Experience how the region experienced this time of conflict. Rare artifacts are displayed at the exhibit including a commission signed by President Abraham Lincoln. Admission ranges from $4 to $7. Info: 798-4362. 

Historic Wilmington Foundation holds its first Old House Fair on Sunday, May 5 as part of National Preservation Month. The fair will be 1-5 p.m. at the Coastline Conference and Event Center, 503 Nutt St., and is intended to offer help and information for those who own an old house or would like to buy one. More than 20 vendors will be on hand to discuss topics such as rehabilitation and restoration, roofing, energy efficiency and painting. There also will be hands-on workshops. Admission is $2.
