Week Events: Small Business Seminar, Childhood Obesity Summit And More

Monday:
The Wilmington Symphony Orchestra, including the Youth Orchestra and Junior Strings, holds auditions for new members this week. Auditions for the Wilmington Symphony will be Monday evening. Youth Orchestra (9th-12th grades) and Junior Strings (6th-8th grades) auditions will be held Thursday evening. Applications and required music are available at www.wilmingtonsymphony.org or by calling the symphony office at 791-9262.

Tuesday:

Whole Foods Market, 3804 Oleander Drive, partners with the Cape Fear Guardian ad Litem Association so that 5 percent of sales on Tuesday at the store are donated to the nonprofit, which raises money to fund tutoring, enrichment, academic and cultural activities and/or supplies that enhance the lives of the children served by the GAL Program.

Cape Fear Community College’s Small Business Center holds a free seminar on “HR Issues for Your Small Business” 6-9 p.m. in Room L107 of the Health Science/Learning Resources Building, 415 N. 2nd St. Go towww.cfcc.edu/sbc to register.

CFCC’s surgical technology program holds an information session for those interested in learning more about a career in surgical technology. The event is 2-3 p.m. and be held in the Health Sciences Building, room L107.

The 3rd annual childhood obesity summit is held at 6 p.m. in the New Hanover County Government Center. For more information, go to www.newhanoverkids.org.


Wednesday:
The New Hanover County Alcoholic Beverage Control Board meets at 8:30 a.m. at the agency’s general office, 523 S. 17th St.

Thursday:
The GE Retirees Association meets at noon at the New Hanover County Senior Center, 2222 South College Road. New Hanover County manager Chris Coudriet is slated to give an update on the state of the county. RSVP by calling 799-5284.

Saturday-Sunday:
Home décor retailer Kirkland’s holds a grand opening 10 a.m.-9 p.m. Saturday and 1-4 p.m. Sunday for its new Wilmington store, 6 Van Campen Blvd. Customers can enter for a $500 gift card drawing, and free design consultations will be offered both days.
