Wednesday: The Wilmington Planning Commission will meet 6 p.m. in the city council chambers of city hall,102 N. 3rd St.
The Carolina Beach Town Council will hold a special meeting at 3 p.m. in the council room of the Carolina Beach Municipal Administration Building, 1121 N. Lake Park Blvd. discuss the town’s use of a buffer zone and to go into a closed session to discuss real estate. WWAY recently reported that town officials are trying to figure out what to do with materials and even buildings stored on U.S. Army-owned land off Dow Road now that Army officials are asking for the things to be removed. The council is expected to discuss the issue at Wednesday’s meeting.
Thursday: The New Hanover Regional Medical Center Foundation holds the 15th Annual Pink Ribbon Events, a fundraiser for programs that help women undergoing cancer and outreach for mammograms. A luncheon, and purse auction, will at the Wilmington Convention Center with author Celia Rivenbark as the featured speaker. An evening cocktail party will take place at the Country Club of Landfall.
A public meeting will be 5-7 p.m. about the Gary Shell Cross-City Trail’s section to stretch from John D. Barry Drive on South 17th Street to Wade Park. The meeting will be at Halyburton Park, 4099 S. 17th St. BlueCross and Blue Shield of North Carolina gave the city a $525,000 grant to fund the section’s construction. Wilmington is working with state transportation officials to fund the rest of the improvements. For more info, call 341-3237.
