Deadline To Take Part In Fitness Challenge Approaching

By Jenny Callison, posted Oct 5, 2011

Area executives and their employees have one week left to register for this year’s Fittest Execs challenge. This three-month competition, organized by the Greater Wilmington Business Journal, is designed to encourage executives and their employees to live healthier lifestyles.

The registration deadline is 5 p.m. Wednesday, October 12. During the week of October 17, participants will undergo a fitness assessment and blood test. The assessment will be administered again at the end of the competition, the week of January 9, to measure progress.

Individual and team awards will be given during the January 25 BizTech Conference & Expo to the men and women who show the most improvement and best overall fitness.

The Fittest Execs competition is sponsored by New Hanover Regional Medical Center, Wilmington Health, 02 Fitness and Fitness Together. It challenges top executives and business owners to lead by example in trying to improve their own personal fitness. They can take part individually, or can form one or more teams within their organization.

“The competition is a fun way to challenge executives and their employees to live healthier lifestyles, which helps boost organizations’ productivity and control their health care expenses,” said Rob Kaiser, publisher of the Greater Wilmington Business Journal.

Cost to enter is $40 per person or $150 for a team of 3-5 people, which covers the assessment at either 02 Fitness or Fitness Together. During the competition period, team members may train together or individually. The two sponsoring fitness centers will offer special programs to encourage participants’ long-term improvement in exercise, diet, and other wellness factors.
