Individuals and business owners whose property sustained damage from Hurricane Irene have one more day to apply for disaster aid through a temporary center in New Hanover County.
The short-term disaster recovery center, which opened September 23, will remain open until 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Representatives from North Carolina Emergency Management, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and other agencies are at the center to explain assistance programs and help those affected by the storm apply for disaster aid.
The center is set up in Suites 127-138 of the New Hanover County Government Center, 230 Government Center Drive in Wilmington. Hours today and Tuesday are 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Those who can’t visit the center before it closes can register with FEMA electronically or by phone:
• Register online at www.DisasterAssistance.gov
• Register using a tablet or smart phone by visiting m.fema.gov
• Call 800-621-FEMA (3362) or (TTY) 800-462-7585; users of 711 or Video Relay Service can call 800-621-3362.
