Economic Outlook Forum Will Address Impact Of Base Realignment

Tomorrow morning UNCW will host a conference examining the economic future of Southeastern North Carolina.

The UNCW Economic Outlook Conference 2010 will focus on the potential effects of military base closures throughout the country that will send an increased number of military personnel and families to Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville and Fort Bragg in Fayetteville. According to a press release, the base realignment is expected to affect the region’s population, real estate and job pool among other factors.

Maj. Gen. Robert C Dickerson, will serve as the keynote speaker at the conference and will be joined by other experts from the military and defense-contracting industry.

Speakers at the conference will include UNCW faculty members Woody Hall and Tom Simpson, who will discuss regional and national economic forecasts. There will also be a real estate panel featuring moderator Patrice Willetts of Coastal Properties and Teresa Huffmon, broker at Coldwell Banker Commercial, Chris Livengood, vice president of sales at Intracoastal Realty and Ralph Huff, founder of H&H Homes in Fayetteville.

The conference is set to begin at 8 a.m. in the Warwick Center.
