Lee, Grange Among Governor's Board Appointments

By Jenny Callison, posted Apr 22, 2014
Wilmington attorney Michael V. Lee has been named the chairman of the N.C. State Ports Authority Board. Gov. Pat McCrory made the announcement Tuesday afternoon.

Lee, currently the board’s vice chairman, is the managing partner of the Lee Law Firm. A former chairman of the New Hanover County Board of Adjustment and member of the City of Wilmington Board of Adjustment, he was appointed to the ports board in 2011.

Lee replaces former board chairman Danny McComas, who announced his resignation from the board March 31.

“Michael Lee has a proven track record of leadership and will help provide the vision that will further integrate the ports into North Carolina’s comprehensive transportation system,” McCrory said in a news release.

In the same release, the governor announced the appointment of Raleigh attorney Robert Sar to the position of vice chairman. Lee and Sar will assume their new roles at the board’s April 24 meeting.

Earlier Tuesday, the governor announced three new appointments to the Ports Authority board of directors. One of the three is Holly Grange, a New Hanover County resident who is director of public relations at Osprey Global Solutions in Wilmington. She is a 15-year U.S. Army veteran, serving on active duty and in the Reserves as an officer in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, according to the release.

Grange is a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point who earned a master’s degree in systems management at University of Southern California and a J.D. from Northern Illinois University College of Law.

The board’s other two new members are William Keadey Jr. of Carteret County and William McMahon III of Mecklenburg County. All three new members will serve six-year terms, the release stated.
