Lower Cape Fear Hospice Names Volunteer Program Manager

By Staff Reports, posted Sep 5, 2017
Rose Hunt
Rose Hunt recently joined Lower Cape Fear Hospice (LCFH) as volunteer program manager.

Hunt is responsible for overseeing the agency’s volunteer program and county-specific community outreach coordinators. LCFH currently has more than 600 volunteers who serve patients and families in Bladen, Brunswick, Columbus, New Hanover, Onslow and Pender counties in North Carolina; and Horry, Georgetown, and Marion counties in South Carolina.

The nonprofit hospice expanded its list of volunteer services more than a year ago, according to a news release. In addition to the services it always provided such as companionship, respite, errands and occasional transportation for patients, it added such services as pet care, lawn care, letter writing, bucket list wish fulfillment, celebrations of life, home-cooked meals to at-home patients and more, the release said.

“I am really dedicated to working in a nonprofit environment,” Hunt said in the release. “My background evolved from being a volunteer myself into service learning, which I continued into college. I love Lower Cape Fear Hospice’s mission.”

Hunt says she learned even more about the nonprofit agency when she had a friend suffering from cancer who was under LCFH’s care. “The family had nothing but wonderful things to say about the care and support they received,” she said.

Hunt said she would love to see LCFH's volunteer base grow, especially in the more rural communities the organization serves.

Before joining LCFH, Hunt served as program coordinator for Wilmington Area Rebuilding Ministries. Hunt graduated from Appalachian State where she majored in Global Studies (with a focus in peace, conflict and human rights) and Nonprofit Management.

Those interested in learning more about becoming a hospice volunteer and helping patients and families in the community can call 796-7900 or visit Lower Cape Fear Hospice’s website and fill out the online volunteer form.

Lower Cape Fear Hospice is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing care and comfort to patients with life-limiting illness; support and counseling to families; and education to the community.

Editor's note: This story has been updated to reflect that Rose Hunt graduated from Appalachian State with a major in Global Studies and Nonprofit Management.
