K-38 in Porters Neck reopened last week following an extensive four-month renovation.

Prior to the renovation, few changes had occurred since the restaurant’s opening in 1998, manager James Hailey said.

“This has really brought us up to where we need to be,” Hailey said.

The restaurant now has a completely remodeled kitchen designed to allow staff to work more efficiently. The redesign and upgrades will allow for faster ticket times, Hailey said.

“Prior to the renovation we were constantly on a wait at peak times,” he said. “The new kitchen allows for more staff, and the layout has a much better flow, which should really help with getting the food out faster.”

The new kitchen includes a wood-fired grill, similar to the one used at sister restaurant Las Olas. Many of the restaurant’s meats as well as its Mexican street corn will be prepared on the grill. Hailey said the kitchen staff would be working on new menu items over the next several months.

K-38 has also installed additional televisions behind the bar for sports enthusiasts as well as a state-of-the-art draft beer system designed to pour 29-degree beer. All of the booths have been reupholstered, and there are new floors throughout.

While many of the changes have taken place behind the scenes, perhaps one of the most noticeable changes is the addition of a 50-seat patio at the front of the restaurant. The previous patio held only four tables.

K-38 Baja Grill is located at 8211 Market St.
