A History of Serving Wilmington And Beyond

Sponsored Content provided by Longley Supply Company - Wilmington, N.C.

Long before the Internet, there was Longley Supply Company.

For more than 100 years, Longley Supply has served its communities by providing quality products and service. The company has expanded from its founding to become a leading provider in plumbing, bath, kitchen, electrical and HVAC supplies.

That’s a lot of history, and with it comes a deep knowledge of the products Longley Supply sells, as well as what’s required to make a project successful.

The staff at Longley Supply readily shares its knowledge with the public in the company’s luxury bath and kitchen showrooms. Homeowners, architects, builders, designers and contractors can come in and experience the products Longley sells – they can sit in a freestanding tub, turn the handles on a kitchen or bathroom faucet and even stand outside a fully glass shower enclosure stall and turn on multiple shower heads and body sprays using an external digital control pad.

In addition to the showroom experience, Longley’s long-time employees at the sales counter can be a wealth of knowledge. Many of them have been with the company for years and are able to easily identify parts and pieces of older faucets, toilets, HVAC systems, breakers and electrical panels. If they don’t have the parts in the warehouse, Longley Supply’s friendly staff will figure out the most efficient and cost-effective way to get you what you need.

You can’t get that from the Internet.

Longley offers a large inventory of products in its warehouse – more than you’ll find at most other retailers – from top-quality brands such as Moen, American Standard, Elkay, T&S Brass, Square D, Nutone and more.

The Longley History

Longley Supply’s success is based on customer service, its loyal workforce, and the hard work of the Longley family.

Longley Supply Company was founded by Henry E. Longley, the grandfather of Emily Longley, the company’s current president. Henry Longley moved his family from Savannah, Georgia to Wilmington to start a small heating contracting business, H.E. Longley and Company.

The business grew rapidly and over the next 36 years added products and services to meet the needs of Wilmington and its neighboring communities. In 1946, the company name was changed to Longley Supply Company to better reflect its expanded offerings. The company moved its headquarters into its current location in April 1962.

One hundred years after its founding, the company operates 10 branches throughout North and South Carolina.

The Longley Experience

Visit a Longley Supply branch on any given day and you’ll likely see contractors picking up material for their next jobs. Contractors and builders know that Longley Supply Company offers higher-quality products than most big box retailers, and that it stands by the products it sells. Longley Supply’s seasoned sales staff also knows what accessories and other hardware will be needed to complete the job, which can help prevent multiple, work-stopping trips for overlooked pieces.

Homeowners get the same kind of professional attention from the Longley staff. They are encouraged to ask questions – and in turn, will receive an education in what will be needed to get their projects done right. To give customers the attention needed, the staff recommends setting an appointment to visit the showroom, although appointments are not required. The sales counter also is fully staffed and ready to help anyone who walks through the doors.

After customers choose what they want to purchase, the staff will check the warehouse to see if the products are on the shelf and immediately available. If not, most can be ordered and ready for pickup or delivery in as little as two to three business days – less time than you’d wait for an online order to arrive.

If you haven’t done so lately, it’s time to visit your local Longley Supply branch.

Longley Supply Company’s Wilmington showroom is open to the public and conveniently located at 2018 Oleander Drive. Showroom hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. After-hours and weekend appointments are also available by request. Visit www.longleysupplycompany.com for a list of other showroom locations in the Carolinas.
