David Morrison

Nonprofit adviser in-residence,
UNCW CIE

David Morrison, a consultant for early-stage nonprofits at UNCW’s Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIE), says he uses technology for everything. “I don’t know what I would do without my iPhone, Mac and Amazon Echo Dot.”

Mashable, Nonprofit Quarterly and TechCrunch are essential reads for work-related browsing. “If it’s just news, I’ll ask Alexa for headlines from USA Today.”

Morrison only recently embraced podcasts but has quickly become addicted. “There are too many to mention all of my favorites. I enjoy So Money [with Farnoosh Torabi] for keeping tabs on my financial life and Fortune Unfiltered for giving me a sense of what work life is like.”

Offline, he enjoys cheering on the Chicago Cubs and reading. He recommends Getting to Like by Ali Zagat and Jeremy Goldman for nonfiction fans and The Whistler by John Grisham for like-minded legal thriller buffs.

On TV, he’s watching too many shows to count. “On a personal note, I relate well to Speechless.”

His go-to apps are a couple of tried-and- true performers – “Google Calendar for keeping track of my busy schedule and Audible so I can listen to as many books as my heart desires.” He’s also a fan of Slack’s functionality when he’s working with large teams.
