Vacant Building To Get New Bounce

By Samantha Santana, posted Jun 26, 2014
Trampolines are making their way to Wilmington.

Defy Gravity, an indoor trampoline gym chain in North Carolina, purchased a building on Market Street on Monday, June 16 for an expansion location. The recent purchase will add to its Durham, Raleigh and Charlotte locations.

Britt Motorsports, a company that sold and built motorcycles, previously occupied the Market Street building before closing its Wilmington and Fayetteville locations in December 2012 after its owner, Scott Britt, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2011.

Garry Silivanch, vice president of office and investment properties for Wilmington-based Coldwell Banker Commercial Sun Coast Partners and vice president with Team Silivanch, said the 23,000 square-foot building was the only location fit for Defy Gravity.

“It was the only building with a minimum of 22-foot ceilings, heated and cooled that we had available,” Silivanch said. “It’s the perfect building. They need the height for jumping.”

Defy Gravity will serve as an entertainment venue, will feature individual workouts and contain dodge ball cages, Silivanch said.

The building will open sometime in the fall and is located at 6431 Market Street.
