The Port City’s newest hotel property is about to take shape. Parks Hospitality Group announced in a news release that SpringHill Suites by Marriott Wilmington/Mayfaire will hold a groundbreaking ceremony this week on the property, 1014 Ashes Drive, in the Renaissance Park office development.

Cary-based Parks Hospitality Group will develop, own and manage the four-story hotel, which will offer 120 suites, free hot breakfast buffet, bar, free business center and 1,200 square feet of meeting space, said Trevor Walden, the company’s vice president for sales and marketing. The hotel will be equipped with free high-speed Internet.

The hotel should be open by early spring of 2015, he added.

All the suites are the same size, with the exception of one bridal suite and one executive suite, Walden said. The suites have about 25 percent more space than a traditional hotel room, and all have separate areas for sleeping, working and relaxing, he said.

“We believe SpringHill Suites is a perfect fit for the Wilmington market because it delivers the space, stylish design and all the amenities that appeal to both business and leisure travelers at a great value,” Walden said.

He added that SpringHill Suites could potentially share a parking lot with a future 18,000-square-foot office building.

The Wilmington property will be the 13th SpringHill Suites by Marriott in North Carolina, Walden said.
