Three brothers, two of whom live in Wilmington, are putting some family land to use while also managing to preserve its natural beauty and share it with others.
Eason, Russ and Callan Bryan created ZipQuest, a two-hour tour through the treetops in the brothers’ hometown of Fayetteville. The tour covers unusually steep and diverse topography up to 80 feet including the 20-foot-tall Carvers Falls, the largest waterfall in the central and eastern Carolinas spanning 150 feet across. ZipQuest is located on 50 acres and the longest zip is 1,000 feet.
“This kind of topography makes you feel like you’re in the mountains,” said Russ Bryan, vice president of Title Insurance Co. in Wilmington. When STEPS, the builder out of Michigan, was told about the job they assured the brothers the topography of central North Carolina would not allow for a zipline course, Bryan said. They quickly changed their minds when they visited the property.
“[The experience] is consistently exceeding everyone’s expectations,” Bryan said.
“It is a rare ecosystem,” he said. “We wanted to preserve it, share it with the rest of the world and offset its costs.” From inception until now the course has taken a year to build, he said. It officially opened on July 18 and reservations for individuals and groups are now being accepted via the ZipQuest website, www.zipquest.com.
Russ’s brother Eason lives and works in Wilmington as well operating a Mosquito Squad franchise. Callan Bryan lives in Davidson and works as an attorney.
