Groups Vie To Build New Operating Room

By Ken Little, posted Jan 26, 2018
Four competing certificate of need applications were recently filed with the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services to develop one operating room in New Hanover County in response to a need determination in the 2017 State Medical Facilities Plan.

A public hearing for the project will be held at noon Jan. 22 in Room 512, on the fifth floor of Union Station at Cape Fear Community College, 502 N. Front St.

Proposals have been submitted by New Hanover Regional Medical Center, Wilmington Surgery Center, Wilmington ASC and New Hanover Surgical Center and OWP4.

New Hanover Regional proposes to add one operating room at the NHRMC campus. The project, if approved, is estimated to cost $1.3 million and be completed in October 2019.

Wilmington Surgery Center proposes to add one operating room to its existing multi-specialty ambulatory surgical center for a total of 11 operating rooms. The project is estimated to cost $1.1 million and would be completed in January 2021.

Wilmington ASC proposes a new multi-specialty surgery center in Wilmington that includes one new operating room. The project would involve transferring three existing GI/ endoscopy procedure rooms from the ambulatory surgery center owned by Wilmington Health and adding three procedure rooms. The project cost is estimated at nearly $13.4 million, with completion anticipated in January 2020.

New Hanover Surgical Center and OWP4 together propose to develop a new ambulatory surgical center in Wilmington with one operating room and two procedure rooms. The project is expected to cost about $6.2 million and would be competed in January 2020.
