Novant Health Brunswick Medical Center in Bolivia is now offering 3-D mammograms to patients in Brunswick County and the surrounding areas.
The American College of Radiology recommends breast screening for women begin at age 40, possibly earlier for those at high risk. 3-D mammography is a screening tool that complements standard two-dimensional mammography.
“This new technology allows us to have better visibility and more accurately detect cases of breast cancer. 3-D mammograms have been shown to detect 40 percent more cancer cases than the standard mammogram,” said Adam Braithwaite, director of breast imaging at Novant Health Brunswick Medical Center.
3-D mammograms are covered by most insurance companies.
For uninsured patients or those whose insurance does not cover 3-D mammograms, the screening fee is $55. Novant Health also has grant dollars that will support screenings for those without insurance.
