VA Clinic Opens In Brunswick County

By Ken Little, posted Jul 14, 2017
As more military veterans retire in Brunswick County, the need for health care services has increased.

To meet that need, the Fayetteville VA Medical Center’s Brunswick County Community-Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) opened for business on June 26.

The outpatient clinic in Supply is a 9,500 square-foot facility located at 18 Doctors Circle, in units 2 and 3.

The clinic provides primary care health services for veterans in and around Brunswick County, according to the Department of Veterans Affairs website.

The Brunswick County CBOC offers primary care services from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Telehealth services will be available in addition to a mail order pharmacy.

Care is provided using VA’s team-based Patient Aligned Care Teams (PACT) model.

A PACT consists of a health care provider who could be a doctor, physician assistant or nurse practitioner, a registered nurse, licensed practical nurse and a medical support assistant who works together, according to VA officials.

“The PACT team works closely with the patients and their families to ensure trusted, personal relationships are developed to coordinate all aspects of the Veterans health care.

When additional services are needed to meet their goals and needs, other care team members will be consulted,” the VA website stated.

Veterans who need specialized health care can get a consult at the Brunswick CBOC. After the consult is completed, referral to VA’s Wilmington Health Care Center is possible to receive specialized services such as mental health, urology, women’s health and additional services.

The new facility allows more veterans to be served, and the space to expand the scope of services offered at the clinic, officials said. It replaces a Veterans Outreach Clinic that opened in 2011 in Supply.
