Bariatric Program Earns Women’s Choice Award

By Ken Little, posted Jan 29, 2016
New Hanover Regional Medical Center has been recognized as one of America’s best hospitals for bariatric surgery by the 2016 Women’s Choice Award, which uses evidence-based research to identify the brands, products and services most recommended and trusted by women.

“We’re honored to receive this award for our commitment to high-quality, patient-centered care,” NHRMC president and CEO Jack Barto said in a news release.

Barto said the award “confirms that our bariatric surgery program provides a high standard of comprehensive care to all patients.”

In the last year, more than 83 percent of patients who underwent bariatric surgery at NHRMC were women. NHRMC’s dedicated weight loss surgery program has received numerous accolades, including being designated as a Blue Distinction Center + for Bariatric Surgery by Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association, and accredited as a Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence by the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery and the American College of Surgeons.

The Women’s Choice Award recognizes hospitals that have met the highest standards of the American College of Surgeons and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery through the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program.

The award also notes that NHRMC ranked above the national average for patient recommendation rates and signifies NHRMC’s commitment to an extraordinary healthcare experience for women and all patients.

The Women’s Choice Award is a referral source for women who are searching for the most recommended hospitals, businesses, brands and services. The award is the result of evidence-based research founded on a gender-based consumer satisfaction survey, according to the release.
