NHRMC Receives Award For Women’s Choice Group

By Ken Little, posted Sep 11, 2015
New Hanover Regional Medical Center was recognized as one of America’s best hospitals for cancer care by the Women’s Choice Award, a news release said.

The Women’s Choice Award is an organization that uses evidence-based research to identify the brands, products and services most recommended and trusted by women, officials said. It is the result of evidence-based research founded on a gender-based consumer satisfaction survey, according to the release.

The award organization reports that women make 94 percent of health care decisions for themselves and their families.

“This award signifies NHRMC’s commitment and passion toward an extraordinary healthcare experience for women and all patients,” NHRMC president and CEO Jack Barto said in the release. “We’re honored to receive this award that recognizes our commitment to patient-centered care. This award confirms that, while women often make health care choices for the family, our cancer program provides high-quality care to all patients.”

NHRMC joins a network of 331 hospitals that have earned the 2015 Women’s Choice Award by meeting the highest cancer care accreditation standards of the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer.

The award recognizes excellence in patient safety and a high recommendation rate, a measure important to women in choosing a hospital, the release said.

“The Women’s Choice Award validates our dedication to providing quality patient care and excellence in diagnosis, treatment and support for the women, men and children who chose our program,” said Henry Hawthorne, administrator of oncology at NHRMC Zimmer Cancer Center.
