Dosher Holds Open House, Gives Construction Update

By Ken Little, posted Jan 30, 2015
The first phase of Dosher Memorial Hospital’s patient care unit renovation is complete.
To mark the accomplishment, the Southport facility held a public open house Jan 25.

Visitors were able to inspect Dosher’s new inpatient care wing. An up-close look was provided of the hospital’s work areas and private patient rooms.

Also on display was the wing’s new special care rooms and oversized orthopedic patient rooms to accommodate the special needs of patients recovering from joint replacement or other orthopedic procedures.

“The opening of our new Patient Care Unit marks a milestone for Dosher Hospital and for the community we serve. The renovation of our inpatient facility completes the total rebuilding of Dosher Memorial Hospital and is the fulfillment of a long-term strategic plan by our Board of Trustees,” Dosher Hospital president and CEO Tom Siemers said in a news release.

Siemers said the new inpatient wing would enhance the care Dosher provides to the community.
He said in planning the new inpatient wing, attention was paid to every detail.

“It will provide 25 beautiful, private patient rooms … and will dramatically enhance the quality of inpatient care Dosher Hospital can provide to the community we serve,” Siemers said.

The patient care unit renovation project included the rebuilding of about 12,000 square feet of space and the addition of another 6,000 square feet to the hospital.

The renovation project was made possible in part through an $8.5 million U.S. Department of Agriculture loan. The total cost of the project is estimated at $11.2 million.

The architect for the hospital renovation is KSQ/Peterson of Charlotte. Rodgers Builders, also of Charlotte, is serving as construction manager.
