2014 Health Care Heroes Award Winners Announced

Nine members of the Wilmington-area medical community were recognized Saturday evening for their contributions to patient care and the local health field at the 2014 Health Care Heroes awards.
 
The awards, hosted by the Greater Wilmington Business Journal and held at Cape Fear Community College's Union Station, drew about 350 attendees.
 
The winners were:
 
• Community Achievement category-Randy Anderson, vice president of global product development and therapeutic area leader for metabolics at PPD
 
• Community Outreach category-Damian Brezinski, cardiologist at Wilmington Health
 
• Health Care Executive category-Jack Barto, president and CEO of New Hanover Regional Medical Center

• Health Care Professional category-Jennifer Buxton, director of pharmacy at Cape Fear Clinic
 
Innovation in Health Care category-Laura Harris, ophthalmologist, surgeon and owner of Cataract Consultants

Physician category-Janelle Rhyne, chief medical officer at Cape Fear Clinic
 
Nurse category-JeanLynn King, case management supervisor for Novant Health Brunswick Medical Center
 
Volunteer category-Miriam “Mike” Holt, a resident at The Davis Community
 
• And Lifetime Achievement category-Frank Reynolds, retired pediatrician who spent decades caring for children in the region.
