New Hanover Regional Medical Center has submitted site plans for its property near North 23rd Street, according to city of Wilmington documents.

The documents are for the hospital's plans to renovate a more than 290,000-square-foot building to use as warehouse and office space for NHRMC's Distribution Center and Emergency Medical Services, Julian March, NHRMC spokesman, said in an email Monday.

The plans are for 2221/2201 J.R. Kennedy Drive in Wilmington, city documents show. The plans are slated to go before the city's Technical Review Committee on July 11, according to the city's project tracking website.

NHRMC purchased the J.R. Kennedy Drive property in mid-2018 from International Paper for more than $5 million, according to New Hanover County deeds.

The purchase involved nearly 16 acres and the building at 2221 J.R. Kennedy Drive, 19 acres at 2201 J.R. Kennedy Drive and less than an acre on North 23rd Street.

Plans also call for proposed parking with more than 800 regular parking spaces and more than 60 EMS vehicle and equipment spaces.

Pending approvals, NHRMC aims to wrap renovation efforts by the end of the year, and is "still working on occupancy timelines," March said in an email.
