NHRMC, Harrelson Center Partner On Help Hub

By Johanna Cano, posted Feb 1, 2019
The Harrelson Center and New Hanover Regional Medical Center have partnered to combine services at the Help Hub, a pilot program started by the Harrelson Center that provides short-term, emergency financial counsel and assistance to individuals in need.

The Harrelson Center is a nonprofit that supports and partners with other nonprofits on topics such as affordable housing, education, employment, health care and family support.

The collaboration would allow NHRMC to gain a deeper understanding of health and wellness concerns in highly populated areas of New Hanover County, downtown and metropolitan Wilmington, stated a news release.

People visiting the Help Hub often discuss their medical concerns with volunteer advisers, making the partnership with NHRMC useful for those seeking assistance with their medical-related bills and expenses, according to the news release.

Katherine Bryant, a pharmacist at NHRMC, can meet with individuals in private to assess immediate and ongoing medical issues when they visit the Help Hub.

“With our new mission, we are looking for innovative opportunities to partner in new and different ways with organizations like The Harrelson Center, who are experts at connecting community members with resources,” Laurie Whalin, vice president of clinical support services at NHRMC, said in the release.

“We want to extend our reach and get out into the community and meet our patients where they are, with the ultimate goal of helping them achieve outstanding health.”
