New Hanover Regional Recognizes GE Wilmington

By Ken Little, posted Nov 6, 2015
New Hanover Regional Medical Center has recognized GE’s Wilmington operation “for its outstanding and life-saving commitment to improving the health and well being of its employees,” medical center officials said in a news release.

GE was acknowledged at the NHRMC Cardiovascular Symposium in October for its dedication to heart health.

“GE Wilmington has taken employee wellness to a new level. Not only have they promoted caring for your heart through diet and exercise, they provide life-saving resources to help those who have medical emergencies on the job,” David Parks, vice president of cardiac and clinical support services at NHRMC, said in a news release.

GE promotes heart health through diet and exercise programs and had trained more than 1,000 employees in CPR. The company established an on-site team of first responders in the case of a medical emergency so trained health care providers could quickly respond.

The company also outfitted its Castle Hayne facility with 31 automated external defibrillators (AEDs), a life-saving device for cardiac arrest.

The team has responded to four sudden cardiac arrests in seven years at the facility, and thanks to these established programs and resources, all four employees survived with good outcomes, NHRMC officials said.
