NHRMC Files Plans For New Outpatient Cardiology Complex

By J. Elias O'Neal, posted Feb 28, 2013

New Hanover Regional Medical Center officials have filed plans Wednesday with the Wilmington Development Services division for a new outpatient cardiology complex.

The planned facility is set to rise on 8.24 acres of property along Physicians Drive near the sprawling medical campus.

The project is being designed by the Wilmington-based division of LS3P Associates and engineered by McKim & Creed, which also operates a division in the Port City.

City development officials will discuss the project during a March 14 Technical Review Committee meeting.

Plans call for the complex to be developed in phases.

The first phase would include the construction of a three-story, 62,300-square-foot medical building, and a 17,000 square foot hospitality house. The second phase, which would be built pending demand, would consist of a roughly 20,000-square-foot building on the site.

In a Feb. 15 article published in the Greater Wilmington Business Journal, Erin Balzotti, spokeswoman with New Hanover Regional, said the new hospitality house would replace the existing structure on Medical Center Drive.

No official construction timeline has been set for the proposed medical complex, according to city documents.
