The Willie Stargell Foundation presented a check for $55,000 to the New Hanover Regional Medical Center Foundation on Oct. 14.
Jack Barto, hospital system president and CEO, was present to accept the donation from Margaret Weller-Stargell.
The Willie Stargell Foundation was established by Stargell’s widow, Margaret Weller-Stargell, after his death in 2001 following a lengthy battle with renal failure.
The dialysis center at New Hanover Regional Medical Center was renamed “The Willie ‘Pops’ Stargell Dialysis Center” in April 2006 in recognition of a generous gift.
