This year’s city council election consists of seven members of the Wilmington community vying for the council’s three open seats, including two incumbents.
 
Early voting starts Thursday, Oct. 16, and the election will be held Tuesday, Nov. 4.
 
The Greater Wilmington Business Journal asked each candidate questions about their campaign to see how the candidates compare.

GWBJ: If elected, what changes would you like to see in Wilmington during your term?
Clinton-Quintana: “If elected, I want to see Wilmington grow in a way that works for everyone. That means smart development that protects our neighborhoods and natural resources, affordable housing so working families can stay here, better infrastructure to keep traffic moving and opportunities for small businesses and entrepreneurs to thrive. I want a city where every resident feels seen, safe, and included in our future.”

GWBJ: What is your approach to growth and development in Wilmington?
Clinton-Quintana: “My approach to growth and development in Wilmington is about balance. We need smart planning that keeps up with infrastructure, protects our environment, and makes sure people can afford to live here. Growth should bring opportunities for everyone – supporting small businesses, creating good jobs and strengthening all parts of our community without losing what makes Wilmington charming and feeling like home for many.”
 

GWBJ: What do you think the Wilmington City Council can do about the need for a Cape Fear Memorial Bridge replacement? 
Clinton-Quintana: "The Cape Fear Memorial Bridge is our lifeline, and replacing it isn’t optional, it’s necessary. City Council may not hold the purse strings, but we do have the power to bring people to the table, push for resources, and make sure the community’s voice is heard at every step. We need a bridge that keeps our families safe, moves traffic better, supports our local businesses, and doesn’t leave anyone out of the conversation."

GWBJ: If elected, which industry would you like to see grow in your next term?
Clinton-Quintana: “I want to see industries grow here that bring real opportunities to everyone – clean energy, tech, healthcare – and I want our small businesses to thrive because they are the heartbeat of Wilmington. Growth should be balanced with outside and inside investors; it should be about creating good jobs and building wealth within our own community.”


GWBJ: Would you put an emphasis on affordable housing in the city? How would you approach the issue?
Clinton-Quintana: “Affordable housing must be a priority. Wilmington should grow in a way that includes working families, not pushing them out. I’ll fight for smart development, strong partnerships, and creative solutions so everyone can have a safe, affordable place to call home.”


GWBJ: What do you bring to the role that the other candidates do not?
Clinton-Quintana: “What I bring is perspective, experience, and a heart for this community. I know what it’s like to work hard, raise a family, and build something from the ground up. I’ve helped people and businesses grow, and I fight for solutions that lift everyone up—not just a few. I see the whole city, and I’ll make sure every voice is heard."
