Patricia Kusek Resigns From Endowment Board

Less than six months after becoming a director with the New Hanover Community Endowment, Patricia Kusek has resigned from her role, according to an NHCE announcement Friday.

Kusek, a former member and vice chair of New Hanover County's Board of Commissioners, helped steward the sale of New Hanover Regional Medical Center that created the more than $1 billion endowment in 2020. She was appointed to her role on the endowment's board of directors in September following a two-year “cooling” period, along with Woody White, another former member of the New Hanover County Board of Commissioners.

The announcement comes less than a month after William Buster, former president and CEO of the endowment, suddenly resigned on Feb. 5. There is no update on the search for Buster's replacement, NHCE's Communications Director Kevin Maurer told the Business Journal on Friday.

“We thank Patricia for her work on our first strategic grant cycle and wish her well going forward,” Bill Cameron, chairman of the NHCE board, stated in Friday's announcement.

Kusek also previously served as the chair of the Cape Fear Public Utility Authority and Cape Fear Community College Board of Trustees.

Kusek did not immediately return requests for comment on Friday.
