UNCW Names Interim Business Dean

(Robert Burrus)
The University of North Carolina Wilmington has named a current administrator and faculty member to serve as interim dean of the Cameron School of Business (CSB).

In a letter to the CSB community, UNCW provost Denise Battles announced that Robert Burrus has accepted the interim post, effective June 1. Burrus, a professor of economics, currently serves as associate dean of undergraduate studies in the business school.

Burrus will assume the CSB leadership position upon the departure of Larry Clark, dean of the Cameron School since 2000. Clark is leaving UNCW to become chancellor of Louisiana State University – Shreveport.

“Dr. Burrus …  brings to the position significant administrative experience, having served as chair of the Department of Economics and Finance since August 2007, a role he has maintained even as he assumed his present position in January of this year,” Battles wrote. “I am deeply appreciative of Dr. Burrus’ willingness to assume this key leadership position in anticipation of the planned national search for a successor to Dean Larry Clark, expected to start this fall.”

In other leadership-related news at UNCW, Youngstown State University announced Friday that it has selected former Ohio State University football coach Jim Tressel as its next president. UNCW chancellor Gary Miller was one of three finalists for that position. Miller is a candidate for openings at least two other schools: the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay and SUNY Buffalo State.
