BIZTALK: Impact On The Arts

By Staff Reports, posted May 6, 2020
Like the rest of the community, those who work in the arts are feeling the effects of measures to slow the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.

On Wednesday, Rhonda Bellamy, executive director of The Arts Council of Wilmington & New Hanover County, and Shane Fernando, executive and artistic director of the Wilson Center at Cape Fear Community College, discussed how the coronavirus pandemic has affected the local arts community and its economic contributions to Wilmington.

"We're hanging in there and finding ways to still stay connected with our community," Fernando said of the Wilson Center, mentioning the Ghostlight Series, a collaboration with the Arts Council and WHQR.

The council has been accepting donations to support the artists featured in the series, with thousands tuning in.

"We're fortunate to have been able to provide micro-grants in the amount of about $150 to more than 30 artists," Bellamy said.
