The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) Alumni Association awarded Kevin Briggs, administrative director of network laboratories at New Hanover Regional Medical Center, its Distinguished Alumnus Award.

Briggs received his master’s degree in clinical laboratory science from MUSC in 2002. During his 10 years at NHRMC, he has received the NHRMC Service & Operational Excellence Champion and NHRMC Leader of Excellence. He also is currently participating in Leadership NHRMC.

The MUSC Alumni Association recognized Briggs’ accomplishments and honored him for being “a lifelong learner with numerous professional certifications and memberships,” a news release stated.

Separately within the hospital system, NHRMC named Rebecca Flores (left), director of the skilled nursing unit at Pender Memorial Hospital in Burgaw, also as a NHRMC Leader of Excellence.

Flores was nominated based on her dedication to ensuring patients, residents and families not only receive the care they need but also some comfort and support, another news release stated. During her time at NHRMC, she has advocated for renovations, new equipment and the donation of new bedspreads for each resident to create a more “home away from home” ambience, the release noted.

The health system selects three people each year as Leaders of Excellence at NHRMC Leader Development Institutes, according to the release.
