NHRMC Named Among Top Bariatric Surgery Spots

By Ken Little, posted Jan 27, 2017
The 2017 Women’s Choice Award recognized New Hanover Regional Medical Center as one of the best hospitals nationally for bariatric surgery, according to a release from the hospital.

“This award confirms that our bariatric surgery program provides a high standard of comprehensive care to all patients,” NHRMC President and CEO John Gizdic said in the release.

More than 80 percent of patients who underwent bariatric surgery at NHRMC in 2016 were women. The release stated that NHRMC’s dedicated weight loss surgery program has received accolades, including being designated as a Blue Distinction Center + for Bariatric Surgery by Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association and accredited as a Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence by the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery and the American College of Surgeons.

The Women’s Choice Award recognizes hospitals that have met the highest standards of the American College of Surgeons and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery through the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program.

“The Women’s Choice Award validates our dedication to providing quality patient care for the women and men who choose our program,” Matt Huberty, business administrator of surgical services at NHRMC, said in the release.

“Thanks to our team of skilled physicians, nurses, dietitians, psychologists and support staff, the NHRMC Bariatric Surgery Program maintains extraordinary success in helping hundreds of patients lose weight and improve their health each year,” Huberty said.
