CresCom, TowneBank Mortgage Announce New Offices

By Jenny Callison, posted Nov 15, 2016
Two financial institutions have announced expansion offices in Wilmington.

CresCom Bank, which opened its first Wilmington branch in April of this year, will add a second branch by the end of December, according to bank officials. The new location is 115 N. Third St., in the former BB&T building downtown.

"We've experienced good growth in general in the Wilmington market, not only in loans, but also in deposits,” Marshall Cooper, the bank’s senior vice president and Wilmington area executive, said in an email. “We feel this new location will not only provide more business for our team, but also provide us with the opportunity to serve more people in our Wilmington community. As one of the few community banks in the downtown area, this new location will also give us a unique location and presence in the market."

The other Wilmington location for Charleston, South Carolina-based CresCom is at 4710 Oleander Drive.

CresCom entered the regional market in December 2014 when it acquired branches in southeastern North Carolina and northeastern South Carolina from First Community Bank. Currently, it maintains four locations in Brunswick County: Southport, Shallotte, Holden Beach and Sunset Beach, as well as locations in Chadbourne, Elizabethtown, Whiteville and Tabor City.

The second local expansion will see TowneBank Mortgage open an office in Marina Village, within the new RiverLights development, according to Jim Henry, RiverLights’ vice president of development.

“Securing a great service provider like TowneBank within Marina Village truly helps us make this the hub of the community,” Henry stated in a news release.

While the mortgage firm will not be part of RiverLights’ sales office, it will offer on-site mortgage services for the new planned community, said Blair Young, the firm’s sales manager in Wilmington.

TowneBank Mortgage, headquartered in Virginia Beach, Virginia, entered the Wilmington market in May 2013. Currently it employs 14 people in sales and about 30 people in operations in its Mayfaire office, Young said Tuesday.

RiverLights plans its grand opening Dec. 3. TowneBank Mortgage will likely open its new office in RiverLights’ Marina Village sometime in December, according to Young.
