SECU Debuts Mobile Pay Services For Members

By Jenny Callison, posted Mar 24, 2016

State Employees’ Credit Union (SECU) has expanded mobile services available to its debit and credit cardholders, the credit union announced recently.

With an Apple, Samsung or Android device, members can make secure purchases at any participating merchant, according to a news release. Using Apple Pay, Samsung Pay and Android Pay, a credit or debit card is added to a member’s mobile wallet, replacing the card number with a unique and secure 16-digit token.

In the first several weeks after rollout, SECU officials said they noted nearly 14,000 active tokens for credit union cards and processed more than 54,000 transactions, representing about $344,000 in sales.

“User feedback has been extremely positive, and we are pleased that members are excited to have this payment option available.” Leanne Phelps, senior vice president of credit card services, said in the release.

SECU is the largest credit union in the greater Wilmington market, with more than 41,000 members and five area offices.
