A North Carolina community bank has entered the Wilmington market.

Sound Bank, established in 2001 and headquartered in Morehead City, announced in a news release Monday the opening of a loan production office at 1721 Allens Lane.

The new office is the sixth location for Sound Bank, which has full-service branches in Cedar Point, Beaufort, New Bern and Morehead City, and a loan production office in Jacksonville, according to its website. Sound Bank’s assets total more than $150 million.

The bank’s choice to head up its New Hanover County market is Mark S. Johnson, himself a Morehead City native. Johnson has 17 years of banking experience, the past 10 of which have been spent in the Wilmington area, according to the release. He earned an undergraduate degree in marketing from University of North Carolina at Greensboro and an MBA with a specialization in finance from the University of Denver.

“We are extremely pleased to have Mark join us,” Sound Bank president and CEO Phil Collins said in the release. “Growing up in Morehead City and living in Wilmington for many years have given Mark a special understanding of our communities and the needs of our customers. He is a skilled banker and respected civic leader with a real commitment to making our area an exceptional place to live. Mark is a perfect complement to our Sound Bank team.”
