Maggie Gorman, director of talent development initiatives with the Greater Wilmington Chamber of Commerce, has completed a skills-based hiring training series with the Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives Foundation.

"Skills-based hiring is a talent strategy where companies focus on the skills needed to succeed in open roles and reduce bias throughout the hiring process. During this training, participants learned how to incorporate a skills-based hiring approach, from identifying skills needed for open positions to onboarding new hires," according to a news release.

Natalie English, president and CEO of the Greater Wilmington Chamber of Commerce, stated in the release, “Skills-based hiring helps employers focus on what people can do, rather than where they learned it. This approach opens the door for more qualified candidates and supports our ongoing work to strengthen Wilmington’s workforce.”

The ACCE Foundation skills-based hiring training series adapted programming from the Rework America Alliance: A Jobs for the Future Initiative to address the needs of chambers, according to the release.

"Through its network of national partners, the Rework America Alliance is sharing data-driven resources and tools to advance skills-based hiring and workers who have built capabilities through experience but do not have a bachelor’s degree," the release stated.

Gorman has over 25 years of expertise in designing and delivering strategic change strategies and leadership development programs, according to the chamber's website. Her career has included roles such as vice president at Denison Consulting, executive director of the Executive Leadership Program at George Washington University and Faculty in Organizational Leadership Studies at Northeastern University, according to the release. Additionally, she served as principal and vice president of the consulting practice at A23 Advisors.
