Rob Zapple

New Hanover County Commissioner Rob Zapple has been appointed to the N.C. Residential Code Council, according to a county news release.

Zapple was nominated to the council May 2 by Gov. Josh Stein and later confirmed by the North Carolina Senate.

“I’m humbled by the Governor’s trust in me to serve in this role on the state’s Residential Code Council and look forward to working with my colleagues from around the state to create common sense policy for residential construction,” Zapple stated in the release. “I’m grateful for the opportunity to bring the experiences from the coastal region of the state into the conversation and delighted to represent New Hanover County.”

The Residential Code Council was established in 2023 to oversee the state’s residential building code and to review code interpretation appeals. It consists of 13 members with roles defined in state law. Zapple will serve a six-year term in the seat designated for a licensed general contractor with experience in residential foundations or concrete placement, according to the release.

Elected in 2022 to his third term on the county board of commissioners, Zapple has decades of experience in the construction industry, including being a licensed general contractor, residential and commercial builder and owner of Rob Zapple Design and Build Inc., the release stated.
